From Trauma to Hope – the Story of Rahul and Jishitha
In February 2025, Jishita
(7 years old) and Rahul
(9 years old) were brought to us by the Indian Women and Welfare Society.
These innocent children, brother and sister, endured severe abuse at the hands of their stepfather and mother. Despite their intelligence and potential, their early years were marked by unimaginable suffering. They were brutally beaten, silenced with plaster over their mouths, and even subjected to the agony of chili powder being applied to their wounds. Tragically, they were unwanted by their mother, who neglected even their most basic needs.
Their biological father abandoned them three years ago due to the mother's involvement in illicit relationships. The horrifying reality of their situation was brought to public attention through media platforms like Indian TV stations, Instagram, and YouTube, sparking outrage and compassion across the nation.
Thanks to swift action, the abusive stepfather and mother have now been imprisoned for their inhuman treatment. Moved by the plight of these children, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has reached out to Share Kids Home, requesting support to offer Jishita and Rahul a chance at a bright, dignified future.
Now, it’s our turn to stand by them—to ensure that their story transforms from one of pain to one of hope, healing, and possibility.
We can report that both children are showing remarkable resilience. Their external wounds have healed. As for their internal wounds, they are being surrounded with love and the best possible care.

Vandaag was een bijzondere dag in Dospadu, de plek voor onze toekomstige nieuwe thuis. Met veel dankbaarheid en verbondenheid hebben we de Sankustapana-ceremonie uitgevoerd – het ritueel van de eerste steenlegging voor de nieuwe gebouwen van Share Kids Home. 📿 Wat is Sankustapana? Sankustapana is een eeuwenoud gebruik waarbij de eerste steen wordt gelegd op een lege bouwgrond. In India staat deze ceremonie symbool voor een zuiver en respectvol begin. Onder verschillende namen zoals Bhumi Pooja of Boomi Puja wordt deze rite uitgevoerd om Moeder Aarde te eren en de vijf natuurelementen – lucht, water, aarde, ruimte en vuur – in harmonie te brengen. Het is een moment van verbinding tussen mens en aarde, een uitnodiging tot bescherming, heling en voorspoed voor alles wat op die plek zal verrijzen. 🙏 Voor ons betekent dit: een veilige, liefdevolle plek bouwen voor de kinderen die we mogen opvangen. Een thuis met stevige fundamenten – letterlijk en symbolisch. We zijn dankbaar dat we dit met z’n allen mogen realiseren.
